Banish unwanted television from public spaces
Posted on 18 Oct 2010 by Alan Burns
Television is ubiquitous. We cannot get away from it. Many of us hate being inundated by television everywhere: airport lounges; exercise rooms; bars, even many good restaurants. My doctor’s waiting room has a big one, usually set to some dreck such as Jerry Springer.
Now you can take action. TV-B-Gone is a tiny remote with only one function: to turn of televisions. When activated, the remote quickly cycles through dozens (hundreds?) of shut-off codes, covering most television models. Codes for the most popular models are sent first, so most TVs will turn off within the first few seconds.
What a brilliantly subversive use of technology! Such a simple device that delivers such power to the user. You become empowered, fighting back against the mindless drone of televisions. Unlike walking up to the TV to physically use its power button (which often is not even possible, as the TV is too high or the power button is covered), TV-B-Gone allows you to take covert action.
