Unlimited Bandwidth

Why Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting for your Websites is Just Silly

Why is the concept of unlimited bandwidth 1.) impossible to offer and 2.) therefore dishonest? Because a company cannot promise something that is unlimited on a finite amount of resources. A server has a certain amount of data transfer it can offer at a certain time. If your site is on the same server as others, you are competing for the same resources. When one site sees a spike in traffic and that site does not have a limit on the amount of resources it takes, it takes the rest of them down.

Think about it: if hosting companies truly offered UNLIMITED bandwidth and hard disk space, why wouldn't Google just say, "You know what? Why have our own hosting data centers when we can get UNLIMITED bandwidth and hard disk space for $4.95 a month? We can't lose." It's really a very silly concept.

And Then the Fine Print...

If something sounds too good to be true, it is, and unlimited bandwidth proves no exception. When you read the terms of service of these "unlimited" providers, you will often see (surprise) the bandwidth limits for each account. This is neither honest nor legal, but considering these companies have never been reported, it still exists. Don't be surprised if you get a letter from an "unlimited" host asking you to upgrade your account should you actually see a spike in traffic.

Choose a Marketing Gimmick, or Choose Uptime

We display our bandwidth and hard disk limitations for you to see upfront, and for the sake of our other customers, we do suspend accounts that go over their plans without upgrading. That is why we can show you our uptime figures each month.

If you are just starting off, getting shared hosting is a good way to start a website off affordably. If you need more space or run into issues with speed, you can upgrade to a virtual private server or dedicated server.
