Introducing Zen Cart
Zen Cart is a free online store management software based on PHP and MySQL. Through its features and modules you can have a professional online store with proper management to use for selling your products.
Installing Zen Cart – Fantastico De Luxe
- Step 1: Login to your Admin cPanel http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
- Step 2: Locate and click on the Fantastico De Luxe Icon
- Step 3: Under the “E Commerce” section, find and click on “Zen Cart”
- Step 4: In the right panel, select “New Installation”
- Step 5: on page 1 of the installation process, you will be prompted for the installation directory. To have “Zen Cart” installed on your website’s main page (http://www.yourdomain.com) leave it blank else, insert the directory of your choice (http://www.yourdomain.com/zencart). Fill out all the required information accordingly and click “Install Zen Cart”.
- Step 6: A summary of the installation details will be posted. Once read, click “Finish Installation”. You will also see the link to your Zen Cart script; click it to start using the application.
Installing Zen Cart – Manually
- Step 1: Browse the official site of Zen Cart and download the latest stable version of Zen Cart to your desktop.
- Step 2: Uncompress the downloaded file to a specified directory on your desktop.
- Step 3: Upload the extracted files (keeping the directories structure intact) to your web hosting account via FTP to a specified directory of your choice (e.g. /zencart).
- Step 4: Login to your Admin cPanel, locate and click on MySQL Databases.
- Step 5: Create a MySQL database name “zencart” and save its name along with the username and password for future use.
- Step 6: After successful creation of the database and its tables, go to the location of your newly uploaded files: http://www.yourdomain.com/zencart/
- Step 7: The web installation wizard will launch and will permit you to start installing Zen cart.
- Step 8: Next will be the welcome message, click “continue” to proceed.
- Step 9: After the welcome message comes the License Agreement. You should read it and accept it to proceed.
- Step 10: Accepting the License agreement will move you to the next page which will test for file and folder permissions.
- Step 11: After you click “Install” the next page will be the database connection settings. Set the correct settings for the database that you created earlier and click “Save database settings”.
- Step 12: Store settings comes next, so you will have to set some information like store name and email address…
- Step 13: Finishing with the store information takes you to the Administrator Setup which enables you to configure the administrator credentials.
Using Zen Cart
Create a new Product
To create a new product:
- Login to Zen cart administrative backend.
- Click on “Catalog”
- Click on “Categories/Products”
- Click on “New Product”.
- Fill in the required fields.
- Click “Preview”.
Select a template
To select an existing template:
- Login to Zen cart administrative backend.
- Click on “Tools”
- Click on “Template Selection”
- On the right side, a list of all available templates will be displayed.
- Select the template of your choice and click “Apply”
Backup Zen Cart Database
- Step 1: Login to your hosting account cPanel, locate and click on the “PhpMyAdmin” icon.
- Step 2: From within PhpMyAdmin, choose the Zen Cart Database.
- Step 3: On the top menu of the database table list, click on “Export”
- Step 4: In the export options, make sure you:
- “Select All” Tables
- Check “Structures” property.
- Check “Data” property.
- Check “Save as” option
- Step 5: Once you double check that all the options in step 4 are set, click Go and save to the file to your desktop.
