Introduction to Coppermine Photo Gallery
Another powerful Open-Source photo gallery, Coppermine requires php, MySQL and ImageMagick/GD Graphics Library to work. It can be managed easily through a web-based interface that you log into with administrator privileges. With Coppermine, you will add a smart and powerful photo gallery to your site enriching it with your photos.
Installing Coppermine Photo Gallery - Fantastico De Luxe
- Step 1: Login to your Admin cPanel http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
- Step 2: Locate and click on the Fantastico De Luxe Icon
- Step 3: Under the “Image Galleries” section, find and click on “Coppermine Photo Gallery”
- Step 4: In the right panel, select “New Installation”
- Step 5: on page 1 of the installation process, you will be prompted for the installation directory. To have osTicket installed on your website’s main page (http://www.yourdomain.com) leave it blank else, insert the directory of your choice (http://www.yourdomain.com/coppermine). Fill out all the required information accordingly and click “Install Coppermine Photo Gallery”.
- Step 6: A summary of the installation details will be posted. Once read, click “Finish Installation”. You will also the path of your “Coppermine Photo Gallery” installation.
Installting Coppermine Photo Gallery - Manual Installation
Coppermine Photo Gallery installation could be done in 7 easy steps:
- Step 1: Download the latest version of Coppermine Photo Gallery from the official website.
- Step 2: Uncompress the downloaded file to a specified directory on your desktop.
- Step 3: Upload the contents of the extracted folder (keeping the directories structure intact) to your web hosting account via FTP to a specified directory of your choice (e.g. /coppermine).
- Step 4: Login to your Admin cPanel, locate & click on “MySQL Databases”.
- Step 5: Create a MySQL database and save its name along with the username and password for future use.
- Step 6: Using your browser, go to the location of your newly uploaded files (step4):

- Step 7: The “Installation Page” page will be displayed. Fill in the required fields from administrator credentials to database name, username and password. The database credentials are the ones you created earlier in step 5. When you’re done, click on “Let’s Go!”.

- General Configuration
The general configuration section in Coppermine Photo Gallery is the section where all main gallery settings are set and configured to better manage your website. From user settings to language settings, maintenance settings and gallery settings an administrator can fine tune his website and maintain all photo gallery aspects.
- Categories
One interesting option in Coppermine Photo Gallery is that you can divide your gallery to categories which makes your website more organized and easier to browse and to manage. In addition to that, you can sort the categories according to the order you like.
- Albums
The place where your pictures are set. To add pictures to an album, you can use the “Batch add files” option or you can upload your photos via FTP to a folder under /coppermine_directoy/albums/ on your hosting account.
- Users and Groups
This section lets you maintain the gallery users and groups. Groups are created to give certain users the same privileges or access to certain categories that others should not have access to. You may add/remove/edit users and groups using this section.
- Admin Tools
The admin tools are tools that can be used by an administrator to edit more advanced settings in the photo gallery and specially options related to the images uploaded and the way they are named, etc. The tools also include log files, counters, database updates etc…
Coppermine Photo Gallery Backup
- Step 1: Login to your website’s cPanel.
- Step 2: Locate and press on the PhpMyAdmin icon.
- Step 3: From the list of databases (left of the screen), select the phplist database.
- Step 4: From the top menu, click Export.
- Step 5: Apart from the default selected options, do select the options “Add Drop Table”, “Add AUTO_INCRIMENT”, “Enclose table and field names with backquotes” and “Save as file.
- Step 6: Click “Go” to start the backup process and to save the file on your local hard drive.
An additional step to backup your Coppermine Photo Gallery is to have a copy of the Coppermine folder present under the “/public_html” directory of your hosting account.
The Coppermine folder along with the database will successfully have you on the safe side from loosing any data.
