    Default Recent Linux Kernel Issues

    Dear Customers,

Due to vulnerabilities, found in Linux kernels released since May, 2001 we had to take such a temporary measure, as limitation of "chmod" and "chown" functionality (commands which let users change files'/folders' permissions and owners).

As a consequences, you may start experiencing issues with content availability, followed by 403, 500, etc. errors due to inappropriate files'/folders' permissions change. This may concern newly updated/modified content, as FTP activity is widely affected.
cPanel means, however, may allow you to set proper permissions and upload content without any issues. On the other hand, we cannot guarantee you its proper functionality as well, as we may keep tightening server security, what can affect cPanel, too.

Here you can find the details, officially posted by the vulnerability discoverer:

All of you are welcome at our technical support department at https://www.whbsupport.com with your issues. Once the proper solution for kernel security increase is found, (either patching of current kernel, or kernel update whatever), services’ functionality will be brought back to normal.

We take a great care of users' data safety, so we do hope that our temporary compromise will be adequately taken by you.

    Hi everyone!

We've found an ultimate solution, which should nip the issue in the bud:
our Technical Manager has designed and compiled his own kernel on the basis of the latest available release.

Kernel update has been successfully performed on several servers of ours already.

As kernel update needs the server to be rebooted, a correspondent thread will be posted on the each forum branch, dedicated to the specific server.

    Shared servers:

    Reseller servers:

In order to find out, which server you are on, please run the following commands:

    (for Windows users):
Start > Run type 'cmd'. There should a command line appear.

    (for MAC OS users):
Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal. You are in the the terminal.

In the terminal/command line, you'll need to type the following command:
    telnet yourdomainname.xxx 25
    and hit 'Enter'.

You'll see the SMTP welcome message of your server.

We appreciate your understanding and hope, the downtime won't affect you much.
