One of my sites is a message board powered by Invision Power Board version 2.3.6. IPS has recently released the 3.0 branch of its software and I'd like to upgrade (it's a hockey-related board and the season starts soon), but I've heard a great number of horror stories about it running badly on various hosts (and in fact I've experienced some issues as I help out on a similar site hosted by a different company), and I'd really rather not have Support bugging me to upgrade to a VPS simply because I installed newer software. (Don't get me wrong, I'd love to eventually have my site grow to the point where I need to move off of a reseller server and into a virtual or even dedicated solution, but I'd prefer for it to be organic rather than forced.)
So, long story short, I was wondering if anyone here has had any experiences with upgrading their IPB installation to 3.0. How is the performance compared to the 2.x branch? Do I need to be worried about poor response times or excessive server loads? |

Hello,
I have made some research and it does not look like the software itself may be resource intensive for a shared Reseller server. Requirements are absolutely suitable for our servers. If you keep in mind the Acceptable Usage Policy, there should not be any problem with the Board upgrade. |
