Torrents aren't downloaded from the server. That's their claim to fame.

I agree that it's not completely a piracy issue (at all). Torrent files are maybe 1-2Kb in size, and do not consume resources of the server. Hosting a few legal torrent files, and hosting a torrent tracker/service are two completely different things.

A good analogy would be linking to a youtube video. Although yes, the video itself is taking lots of bandwidth, the link isn't causing any bandwidth problems because the content and video are not being shown on the shared hosting plan.

I just don't see WHB minding if I put a torrent file up for a Debian/CentOS release as long as it's a legal torrent, and no bittorrent traffic is being hosted by WHB.

Its not in their TOS anywhere, and I've not seen any contradicting evidence.

I am well aware of how torrents work. I am simply letting you know that Matt wrote that they are not permitted here. WHB Support can clarify if need be.

You've said that twice now, and can say it twice more, but that won't make it true. We need linkage.

We've shown you two links already that say something else entirely. Both are versions of the TOS, so even if he did say that, he was simply mistaken.

Yikes, don't be so accusatory.

I simply communicated what Matt had said. As CEO of WHB, I think his opinion carries weight. I don't see any point in commenting further, as I don't work for WHB. I'll let staff provide a definitive response, if they so choose.
