Default Reseller Advice Needed Please

Hello, I am interested in reseller hosting and need advice about registering client domains, please. I have seen warnings NOT to allow automatic domain registrations from clients because of fraud and spamming. I don't understand completely and would really appreciate input from experienced resellers about this and how they do domain registrations. Thanks very much.

You can simply make your domain registrations manually, in a bulk account such as eNom. That's what I do, and what WHB does.

Thanks Alan,
So, if I go to your site, I sign up for your services, and then at some later time you register the domain to use for my site - as a separate transaction, right?
When I go to WHB's signup page, it asks for a domain, and then appears to say that it will be registered right then. Isn't that automatic registration?
Forgive my confusion. I want to be sure I understand.
Thanks,
Randy

Yes, domain registration is done manually. That is how WHB does it. It avoids a lot of work and cost due to abuse.

Randy,

As Alan said, it is most definitely best to handle your registrations manually. I would suggest simply adding a note to your order form that all orders are reviewed for fraud, and give a realistic estimated account setup time.

Also, since there is propagation time when you register a new domain, a few hours for fraud screening is not a huge issue for most legitimate customers.

If you're making sales, you will get fraud orders, and registering domains automatically will eventually cost you money.

I learnt this the hard way - I used to have auto register when I started out with my reseller accounts.

After a few chargebacks and spam complaints I learnt my lesson quite quickly

Cheers
