I haven’t been with WebHostingBuzz for very long, so I have been spending a lot of time familiarising myself with the company under the guidance of Tyler – Marketing Manager. One of our first discussions was about a WebHostingBuzz case study that we’re publishing. The topic? Unlimited Web Hosting.*

As somebody who has worked in the hosting industry in various capacities for several years I had come to accept the ‘unlimited’ plan as a sad but true fact of life. The case study in question was to outline why WebHostingBuzz has not joined the ‘unlimited’ bandwagon.

Perhaps stupidly, (I had only been ‘hired’ for ten minutes,) I challenged that point of view. How were unlimited plans really that harmful?

Tyler: “That’s our company philosophy on ‘unlimited’ – unlimited is an unreasonable expectation because it implies people can abuse at will. [WebHostingBuzz servers are] more stable than ‘unlimited’ hosts because we do not attract abusers…”

Okay – fair enough. But I thought I would take this a little further. (There is a reason for my reputation for arguing for the sake of arguing…) I suggested that by making plans ‘unlimited’ very few clients would actually use any more of their quota, which is quite true, but that WHB could increase sales exponentially – also very true.

Tyler’s response? No. The same principle stands.

And I ‘get’ it! WebHostingBuzz simply refuses to jeapordise the stability that they offer their clients, regardless of the thousands of extra clients they could stand to gain with the introduction of ‘unlimited’ plans. It is true – ‘unlimited’ offerings usually attract the kind of user who is really going to push that definition to it’s limit, impacting heavily on the service of others. WebHostingBuzz offers generous plan sizes at a fantastic price without using the dreaded ‘U’ word.

So, after just a few hours I am confident that I’m working with a highly competent, friendly company that really cares about it’s customers. And after several years in the web hosting industry I know how hard that is to come by. WebHostingBuzz customers really are in good hands.

*Unlimited Web Hosting refers to web hosting plans that offer unlimited disk space and/or transfer. The true meaning of ‘unlimited’ in these scenarios is very hazy indeed. Besides, hosts have plenty of restrictions in place to ensure you’ll never reach your ‘unlimited’ potential!
