Some numbers on spam…

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

I must admit, one of my favorite features of our new Spam/Virus Firewalls is the fact I receive comprehensive reports on all mail processed. I’m a man of numbers, my favorite show, is numbers, and in turn, I simply love seeing statistics, whether sports, or in this case, on mail. In 24 hours (and 15 minutes) the spam firewall processed 15,025 emails. Guess how many of those were ham? (Ham is what you actually want to read)…2.36%.

Which means, in the 6 domains currently being routed through this firewall, we’ve eliminated 97.64% of the email before it reaches the servers, and before our servers need to allocate their resources to process, filter, and deliver the mail.

Instead of having to process 15,025 emails, filter, deliver (and in all likely hood, the servers would’ve picked up less then 50% of the spam, as it’s limited on the tests and filtering it can do since it’s also powering your websites, databases, and everything, rather than simply email.) the mail server process 355 emails. 355 emails which we could confidently say were all legit emails that you want to read.

Amazing..this service will be going public soon, be ready to eliminate spam from your daily agenda, and being able to say “I remember when I had to filter though my inbox every morning deleting all the spam, viruses and phishing emails…Yeah, I remember those days”
