Hello blog readers…. nothing to exciting to blog about in this post I’m afraid, other that we’re upgrading our helpdesk on Thursday March 8th at 12:00 UTC. That’s 7am EST.

The helpdesk may be unavailable for a short while whilst we perform the upgrade.

As per my post on March 4th, our first phase of Omelette HoshPosh is here. WebHostingBuzz is now offering free domain name registration with all web hosting plans for LIFE. This means that your domain name would be free for as long as you stay hosted with us. If you ever decide to move away (grr..) and want to transfer the domain name with you to your new web host or domain registrar, we will help you all the way.

We have another surprise coming for you in the next few days. I am not going to say what exactly but this would be something that every reseller web host out there would dream of…stay tuned.

I am not sure if most of you have got the taste buds for Indian food but I like spicy stuff therefore I can take not only Indian dishes but also make quite a few. There is one famous one which is made by initially frying up few onions and tomatoes with a bit of oil and then adding small pinches of like five to six different spices like salt, red chili powder, tumeric powder, green coriander (cilantro ) powder. We fry it for like five minutes or so on low heat and then add the eggs. Scramble them inside and then let it cook for about another 5 minutes or until the eggs are all done. Needless to say its very delicious and can be taken as a side or main dish. The whole purpose of the above recipe was not only to prove how good of a cook I am but also to point out to the recent brain storming session yours truly had with Matt about the improvement of our services. There are lots of changes coming over few days and during the course of the next two to three months which will include free domains for life, web space and bandwidth quota increases with additional stuff such as software tools for our resellers and other secret add-ons which I am not going to list at this time. I am uploading a *very* private highly professional document of our future plans. Luckily or unluckily it resembles the Indian hoshposh where one cannot figure out the ingredients or the resultant outcome. Well I wish you best of luck in figuring it out. One thing is for sure, you are bound to hear good news very soon about our new plans to take our services to the next level. Cya.

I have been doing a lot of reading lately about how we can improve our rankings in top search engines or frankly the only meaningful search engine alive today namely google.com. For what I have read both from companies that claim to take give your website top rankings within few months to the ones that actually know what they are doing, my conclusion has led me to strictly believe that google is mainly about the content and by content I mean content that really makes sense to the average user out there. I will take on an example case

Example: You are a company that sells cakes and have taken into account everything in your power to put forward a best looking website that clearly spreads out the basics of what types of cakes you offer and at what price but thats something every other online bakery is doing. How would yours be different? Not that I have ever setup an online bakery or know how to bake cakes but say from an average user’s perspective it would probably make a better impact on me If I saw easy reciepes to making few sweet delicacies. The key element here is the value to consumers. How much of user friendly data your website has and how well a potential visitor viewing it can grasp.

Cross check your website at webpagesthatsuck.com and then find the faults in your content. Once you are able to get that google ranking would come natural to your website.

Does my Website Suck? Check List.

Here is a video from the owner of the website where he gives three important and simplistic tips towards better rankings in google.

XHTML indirectly giving you direct rankings!

I have been doing some reading on search engine optimization and one of the topics that pop ups in front is whether webmasters should code the site in HTML or XHTML. Well technically from a search engine’s perspective, if there is a good balance between the quality code and content, either can be used but the main question is if we can maintain that balance without pulling our hair out. I have worked with HTML most of the my life but recently moved on to XHTML and I must say that the decision was right. Few basic ways how XHTML is different and recommended http://w3schools.com.

* Elements must be properly nested
* Must always be closed
* Have one root element
* Must be in lowercase

(source: http://www.w3schools.com)

Since it makes sure that you code it correct in the first place and nearly separates the actual content from its settings, XHTML becomes indirectly likeable to search engines hence there is a good chance of overall better rankings for your keywords. For those folks who are interested in learning the basics, here is a short video by Howard University on the basics of XHTML coding. You would find it very similar to HTML just a lot more organized and strict for a cleaner and better code.

I was WHB’s sole representation at HostingCon 2006 and attended a hosting conference for the first time. It was, however, great fun and very productive – two key elements of any conference. As a result, both myself and the CEO will be in attendance at HostingCon 2007 to meet industry peers, suppliers, competitors and, hopefully, you.

HC2007 is in Chicago and we’d be very interested in meeting anyone with a greater interest in hosting at HostingCon. We’re friendly and would love the chance to meet some customers in person. We’ll be staying in the W hotel but if we can get a small group of customers together, we’ll take you all out for dinner and discuss both hosting and WHB, as well as anything that crosses our mind :)

If you’re in Chicago, going to HostingCon or want to meet us, then get in touch ;)
