Hello All,

Those of you visiting the helpdesk recently may have noticed that it’s now pulling news feeds from whbstatus.com, our announcement website. This is only the first phase. It will shortly show news only relevant do you, dependant upon which server you have entered in the server name field. This means it will only show the news from the main announcements forum plus your server forum. Pretty cool, eh?

We’re also setting up login shares between the billing system, helpdesk and status system for new signups. This should be operational before the end of the month.

And lastly…. we’re probably going to open up a discussion area of the forums. We appreciate this is a big thing for many people, and we’re eager to please and improve interaction between staff and clients.

Importance of security cannot be ignored. Cpanel software gives us the ability to access sensitive areas both through SSL (secure socket layer) and through normal modes. SSL is used to securely transfer a given information from one point to another so that it cannot be read by a third party. It is mostly used for control panels, webmail logins, for taking credit card transactions etc. It is a small lock that appears at the bottom or top side of the web browsers and when clicked can give you more information on its authenticity and some information about the website. Commercial SSL certificates are signed by companies like thawte, verisign, geotrust etc.

Anyways enough of this technical mambo jambo, my point is that from now on we will redirect all the users to the https:// (which is the usual prefix of an SSL part of the URL instead of the normal http://) version of control panel, web mail area and web host manager. Since they are self signed which means that they have not been authenticated by a commercial third party, it might give you a pop up. Just click Yes to accept the certificate and move on. It WILL encrypt your access to those areas which is the aim of the whole exercise and that is to make sure all clients are forced to access these sections securely.
