Archive for November, 2006
Wow… two posts in one day on the blog? Pretty incredible, we know!
Anyhow, this post concerns the November newsletter. We’ve sent it out to some of our client base but not all. This is due to a bug in the new version of the billing system we are using. The developers are working on it and we’ll hopefully have it sent out soon. In the mean time, I’ll post it here for your viewing. Enjoy!

1. October Uptime Figures
October saw another excellent month of uptime and performance from our servers. Uptime figures are posted on our blog at http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/blog/?p=27. We invite everyone to take a look to see what uptime their server achieved during October.For those unaware of our new procedure of uptime figures, we will be posting uptime figures for the previous month during the first week of the new month. For example, November’s uptime stats will be calculated and published between December 1st and 7th.
2. WebHostingBuzz Affiliate Program Launch It’s here, finally! Yes, we finally launched our affiliate program on November 3rd 2006. We know it is long overdue but we have spent a long time putting the system into place and we are very pleased with what we can offer. The affiliate program offers 40% payouts on all sales delivered (this is an introductory offer and may be changed — we advise you take full advantage of it now!). We have a selection of banners and buttons you can use within the affiliate program and we are having more designed for us at present. And you can, of course, use your own banners and buttons (we can send out high resolution images of our Logo, should you wish). Full affiliate program details are at http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/affiliate.html.3. Client Testimonials
We recently posted on our blog asking for extra testimonials to be featured on our site. We had a great response to this with many excellent testimonials coming in, so thank you for this! We are still waiting for our first video testimonial though. C’mon, don’t be shy – we’ll send you a WHB t-shirt and a few other goodies in return for a nice video testimonial. We might even include a team photo!
4. whbstatus.com
A few months back we introduced whbstatus.com as our new means of communicating both scheduled and emergency maintenance. We’re very impressed with how the forum style system works for this and we still encourage you to signup to the appropriate forum for the latest news on your server.
We have had many clients display interest in us adding an open forum to the system too, where clients can register and post messages/threads. We have considered this and we’d like feedback on whether you’d like to see this at WebHostingBuzz. The forum would be used as a lounge where you can meet other WHB clients, and possibly as a suggestions forum where you can suggest features/services you’d like to see here. It would not be used as a support forum as we’re keping the helpdesk for this. Feedback on this idea can be sent to our COO, matt@webhostingbuzz.com
5. Client Spotlight
We’d like to introduce a monthly client spotlight area of our website. In the spotlight, we feature a new client each month. We’ll talk a little about you, a little about your website and why you chose WebHostingBuzz for your hosting needs. This could be an excellent way to help increase traffic to your website and it definitely won’t hurt those Google rankings! We’re going to start this section of our website in either December or January depending on the response we get.
If you would like to be featured, please send an email to our COO, matt@webhostingbuzz.com, (and yes, he’s going to be very busy this month!) with why you’d like to be in our client spotlight and a brief couple of paragraphs about yourself and your website. We’d like to put photographs of clients in the client spotlight, so please include a small photograph of yourself.
6. Getting Started Guide
We wrote a brief getting started guide intended for WHB clients and have published it at http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/download/getting_started_guide.pdf. It is designed for new clients to educate them about the systems and processes that we have in place, but it provides good reference for existing clients too. As it is a pdf, you can download a local copy of it too – highly recommended!Well, that’s about it from WebHostingBuzz in November. Thank you for reading.
Best Wishes from all at the WHB Team

The register_globals have been turned off in the server wide configuration owing to security reasons. However, some custom scripts require this to be turned on.
We are providing the solution for this issue here :
The register_globals can be turned on in your php.ini file. To do this, create a php.ini file in the directory you need this to be turned on. Then add the following :
=================
register_globals = On
=================
The php.ini file is a configuration file that the server looks at to see what options have been turned on, off or set to a number different from the defaults that we have set for the server. While the name may seem advanced to those unfamiliar with it, it’s simply a text file with the name php.ini.
To create a php.ini file, just open up a text editor, add in the lines you need and save the file. You can name the file whatever you wish when saving. Once done, upload the file to the directory where your script is located and then rename it to php.ini .
There is one main difference to the use of .htaccess vs php.ini — a .htaccess file can be placed at the root directory and effect all subdirectories with just 1 file, php.ini does not work this way. A php.ini file needs to be placed in every directory and subdirectory that requires the altered directives.
